Chamblee City Council

The Chamblee City Council met on July 21, and because minutes aren't posted yet, we know what was on the agenda but not what the council actually decided. As covered in today's news section, we do know that a 180-day moratorium on new data centers was approved. Beyond that, the council had a full slate of business scheduled, including a proposed expansion of the Dresden/Plaster Special Service District, a contract award for the 2026 roadway resurfacing project, and both a Q4 FY2025 budget amendment and a mid-year FY2026 budget review. Parks were also on the agenda, with votes scheduled on naming two new green spaces and approving a construction contract for one of them, plus a trail planning item for the Century Center area. Keep in mind that any of these items may have been tabled or deferred, and outcomes will be clearer once minutes are published.

Permits

- 3127 Chamblee Dunwoody Rd, Ste 400 — A restaurant is getting water and irrigation meters installed. Both permits are closed out, so expect some infrastructure work is wrapping up ahead of an opening.
- 3681 Clairmont Rd — A restaurant permit here went through county review. Filed in late July, it's now closed.
- 5498 Peachtree Industrial Blvd — A nail salon got a life safety review tied to a Chamblee permit. Routine for existing businesses, but it means someone's moving through the approval process.
- 2614 Apple Valley Rd — A $600K commercial project filed for a watershed review. That's a meaningful dollar figure, and watershed review typically comes early in the process for larger developments. One to watch as more details surface.
- 3630 Peachtree Rd NE — A new tenant is building out a vacant suite in a multi-story office building. The permit is flagged as needing additional materials, so it's not moving fast, but a second-generation buildout means the space is getting a full refresh for whoever's moving in.

On the residential side, the area saw a handful of arborist permits for dead or hazardous trees, a couple of home alterations, and two single-family permits. Nothing major there.

Road Work

Under Construction
- SR-13 Resurfacing (DeKalb County) Paving work is underway on SR-13 from the Fulton County line to Chamblee Tucker Road. GDOT flagged the corridor for a low PACES condition rating, so this one's overdue. Expect lane restrictions along the route while crews work.
- Peachtree Industrial Blvd Signal Optimization (DeKalb County) Signal timing work is active along Peachtree Industrial Boulevard between Peachtree Road and New Peachtree Road.
- Ashford-Dunwoody Road EB Ramp at I-285 (DeKalb County) A third lane is being added to the eastbound ramp connecting Ashford-Dunwoody Road to I-285 northbound. The work targets a known congestion point, but construction means you'll likely deal with some slowdowns in the short term before things improve.
