Brookhaven / Chamblee

The Monday after July 4th can be a tough one, but it’s a good week to be a Brookhaven grocery shopper, as the Compare Foods is officially breaking ground in the old Kroger space, and that's just the start of what's happening across the two neighborhoods. We've also got a new seafood restaurant in the works from a team that knows how to deliver, a busy government week with millage rates and a pet shop ban on the table, and a Saturday worth planning around in Chamblee. Dig in.

- Business — The team behind Arnette's Chop Shop is bringing a seafood concept to Brookhaven, while Mosaic Bistro & Pub in Chamblee closes after less than eight months.
- Events — Live! From The Pitch takes over Chamblee on Saturday, and the libraries are packed all week with everything from a space expert visit to LEGO Day.
- Government — DeKalb County commissioners are weighing 2026 millage rates, stormwater fee hikes, and a proposed ban on pet shop sales of dogs, cats, and rabbits — all on the agenda today.
- Construction — The Compare Foods permit is filed to fill in the old Clairmont Kroger space, SR-13 paving is underway, and signal work on Peachtree Industrial could affect your commute.

Compare Foods breaks ground, plus SR-13 paving and signal work on Peachtree Industrial

Permits

The biggest news: the Kroger at 3316 Clairmont Rd. is being redeveloped as “Compare Foods”. A permit filed to reopen the closed supermarket as a full-service grocery store, same use as before, including a meat department. If you've been making do without it, relief is on the way.

A few other commercial filings worth knowing about:

- 5038 Buford Hwy, Ste C — A Guatemalan restaurant inside a grocery store filed for a business permit. The Buford Highway food corridor keeps adding to its lineup.
- 5647 Peachtree Blvd — A service expansion is planned underneath the parking deck at grade level. Expect some activity around that structure.
- 1251 Perimeter Summit Pkwy — An ERCES system (emergency responder communication) is going into this apartment building. Routine safety upgrade, but it does mean work crews on site.
- 3000 Clearview Ave — Sweet Hut Kitchen filed a business license.
- 3601 and 3591 Clearview Pkwy — Two new business licenses filed: EZ Spare Wheel and Artistic Artisans. Small businesses moving into the corridor.

On the residential side, 44 minor permits came through, mostly occupational tax certificates, right-of-way utility work, and vehicle permits. Nothing there that warrants a closer look.

Road Work

Under Construction
- SR-13 Resurfacing (DeKalb County) Paving work is underway on SR-13 from the Fulton County line to Chamblee Tucker Road. The state flagged this stretch for a low pavement quality rating, so expect lane disruptions along that corridor until the work wraps up.
- Peachtree Industrial Blvd Signal Optimization (DeKalb County) crews are working on traffic signal upgrades along Peachtree Industrial between Peachtree Road and New Peachtree Road. Timing patterns may be off while the system gets recalibrated, so give yourself extra buffer if that's part of your daily route.
- Ashford-Dunwoody Road EB Ramp at I-285 (DeKalb County) A third lane is being added to the eastbound ramp where Ashford-Dunwoody meets I-285 northbound. The goal is to ease the bottleneck that backs up there regularly. Construction is active, so expect some slowdowns getting to the ramp in the meantime.
