Buckhead five-year plan outlines development, safety and quality of life improvements
Buckhead Forward, a joint effort of the Buckhead Coalition and Buckhead Community Improvement District, focuses on five areas: walkable public spaces, street and utility improvements, public safety and homelessness, traffic congestion, and civic and cultural engagement. The plan builds on projects already underway, including a $240,000 Atlanta Regional Commission grant for the commercial district and accelerated repaving funded by Moving Atlanta Forward bonds.

Buckhead's Corso Atlanta Sets Groundbreaking for 11-Story Tower With Ballroom, Bar
Corso Atlanta, located at 3200 Howell Mill Road, will break ground October 1 on an 11-story South Tower targeted to open in spring 2028, adding more than 100 upscale senior residences along with a grand ballroom, a bar lounge and a formal Italian restaurant. The development is part of a broader expansion by Galerie Living, which is also planning a 500-unit continuing-care community on Emory University's 32-acre Briarcliff Estate site in Druid Hills.

Atlanta detention center sale sparks heated debate
A Sept. 23 work session on the City of Atlanta's proposed $68 million sale of the Atlanta City Detention Center to Fulton County, a 1,300-person jail built in 1995 and appraised at $144 million, devolved into a shouting match among advocates, police and officials. Critics including Southern Center for Human Rights policy director Tiffany Roberts and NAACP legal fellow Ashley Conyers cited Fulton County's Rice Street jail staffing shortfalls, while Sheriff Patrick Labat pointed to a 10% hiring increase and 141 new employees in 2026.

Atlanta's 911 system restored after technical failure
Atlanta's E-911 system went down Monday night due to a technical issue unrelated to a cyberattack, prompting dispatchers to relocate to a temporary call center at the city's public safety training center while Fulton County's Emergency Communications Center assisted with calls. Officials said calls were still answered but processing was slower because dispatchers had to record information by hand, marking the first activation of the contingency plan since 2022.

Shedding light on 3 recent construction failures along Atlanta Beltline
Newly completed connective stairs at Grant Street on the Southside Trail, built by contractor Reeves Young, were fully ripped out after the Beltline's engineer of record found "several cosmetic and dimensional deficiencies" in August, with fixes now expected by late October. Beltline vice president of design and construction Kynthia Gaines said contractors bear responsibility for correction costs, though no cost estimates have been released for this or two other recent construction issues on the trail system.

Linton's Bar & Grill and The Buttery planning late spring debut at Buckhead Center — Chef Linton Hopkins is bringing the restaurant and its adjoining bakery to a 7,000-square-foot space along Peachtree Road in Buckhead Village, with the pair targeting a late spring 2027 opening at Buckhead Center.

Past Week Roundup

Atlanta City Council met this past week, though the full council's minutes aren't published yet, so specific votes and outcomes from that session aren't available. The Committee on Council did plenty of business, though, starting with a unanimous 5-0 vote recommending former City Council President Felicia Moore for a three-year seat on the city's Ethics Board. The committee also backed two reappointments to the Atlanta Commission on Women and approved a Piedmont Park security coordinator for a seat on the Special Event Technical Advisory Group. Several bigger-picture items stayed stuck in committee, including a charter amendment that would require every piece of legislation to have a named council sponsor, a rule change letting the public speak in strict sign-up order during meetings, and a push for an independent investigation into the city's contracts with Foris Webb, III. A resolution asking Fulton and DeKalb election officials to station certified police officers at recreation centers used as polling sites also remains held, meaning none of these questions will move forward until council members take them up again.

Permits
- 3519 Roxboro Rd NE — Land disturbance approved for six new 4-story residential townhomes, plus new utility work. No trees were destroyed in the process, but expect construction noise and equipment traffic as this project breaks ground.
- 3284 Northside Pkwy NW — A second-generation build out is ready to issue, covering a full renovation of the elevator lobby, restrooms, and common areas. This kind of interior overhaul usually means a building's getting ready for new or upgraded tenants.
- 140 Chastain Park Ave NW — HVAC work is issued for the Amusement/Recreation Building at Chastain Park, tied to a broader alteration project already underway. If you use the park facilities, watch for continued work in that building.
- 225 W Wieuca Rd NE — A permit to mill and resurface the existing parking lot needs additional materials before it can move forward. Once approved, expect some lot closures and paving noise.
- 3475 Lenox Rd NE — Two separate interior alteration permits are in review for a vacant office suite, including one that reduces the tenant suite size. Both signal a space getting reconfigured before a new tenant moves in.
- 3500 Lenox Rd NE — HVAC relocations are issued for both the 5th and 6th floors, part of a floor plan update. This points to office space being reworked for new occupants.
- 3414 Peachtree Rd NE, 575 Morosgo Dr NE — Rounding out the list, a vacant office suite is getting an interior alteration at Peachtree Rd, and a fire sprinkler relocation is under review at Morosgo Dr to bring the building up to NFPA 13 code. Routine work, but both point to buildings prepping for their next tenants.

- SR 400 @ Justin C Martin Building - Tunnel Bridge Rehab — This work involves developing plans for Tunnel rehabilitation which consists of the following items: . GDOT lists Fulton as affected county.
- SR 9 Fm SR 3 to N of Paces Ferry Rd &Sr 9 So Fm SR 9 to SR 9 — This project, selected by the District Maintenance Office, is the resurfacing of SR 9 to improve the roadways current low OCI score. GDOT lists Fulton as affected county.

- Traffic Signal Repairs — 10 non-emergency reports at Roxboro Rd & Lenox Park Blvd, Peachtree Battle Ave & Peachtree Rd, Peachtree Rd & Stratford Rd, Grandview Ave & Pharr Rd, Maple Dr & Pharr Rd, and several other intersections, plus 5 emergency Level 1 repairs at Lindbergh Dr & Adina Dr, Mount Paran Rd & W Conway Dr, Wright Ave & Lenox Rd, and nearby intersections along W Conway Dr and Mt Paran Rd

- Right of Way Litter Removal — Margaret Mitchell Dr, Deering Rd & Peachtree St, and Adina Dr & Garson Dr
- Downed Trees — Parkdale Pl & Lindbergh Dr, Lindbergh Dr, and W Wesley Rd
