Note: our information comes from posted meetings documents (agendas and minutes when available) β latest source document hyperlinked to each meeting.
Past Week Roundup
Atlanta City Council: The Zoning Committee voted 6-0 to extend the self-storage moratorium for Office-Institutional districts by 60 days, and it recommended denial of a major site plan expansion for a planned housing development. At the Finance/Executive Committee, members unanimously backed the Fiscal Year 2027 property tax rates, approved $1.1 million over three years for the Urban League's youth grant program, and held a $3.33 million Trees Atlanta contract for more information. The Transportation Committee voted 4-0 to let the Buckhead Community Improvement District design a new roundabout at Habersham and Valley roads for up to $200,000, and it backed $36.84 million for fire safety upgrades on Concourse B at the airport. The City Utilities Committee recommended more than $64 million in water and infrastructure spending, including $25 million for water distribution upgrades, while it held a proposed ban on septic tanks for new commercial development. The Public Safety & Legal Administration Committee approved a $6.5 million AT&T contract to upgrade the city's 911 network and held an ordinance aimed at anonymous housing code complaints. The Community Development/Human Services Committee had more than $24 million in federal housing grants and a proposal to reserve half of BeltLine tax allocation funds for one corridor on its agenda, though minutes aren't yet published, so outcomes there aren't confirmed. Everything the committees advanced went to the full council on Nov. 2. On Monday, Nov. 2, the Committee on Council approved Dr. Annette Hall's appointment to the Human Relations Commission and held both a rewrite of the council's public comment and proclamation rules and a charter change that would require a councilmember sponsor on all legislation. The full council met that afternoon with the FY 2027 property tax rates, the self-storage moratorium extension, the Habersham roundabout design and the water and sewer spending on its agenda, but results haven't been posted yet.
Atlanta Public Schools: The Board of Education's October 28 meeting listing turned out to be a Student Advisory Council general body session at the Center for Learning and Leadership. The record shows no minutes and no votes. The agenda covered student support initiatives, using data to guide financial investments, and planning for the council's standing committees. You won't find any budget, contract, or policy changes from this session, so nothing here affects your family's schools yet. The Board of Education met Monday, Nov. 2, with first reads of proposed fall 2027 attendance zones for more than a dozen west and southwest Atlanta schools, including Douglass and Washington high schools, along with the board's draft 2027 legislative priorities. Its consent agenda included temporary construction easements for the city and a school bus purchase. Minutes aren't posted yet.

CONSTRUCTION
A Valley Road renovation, Lenox office refresh, and SR 400 tunnel repairs
Permits
- 25 Valley Rd NW: Alteration permit under review for a ground floor renovation. The existing kitchen, bar, and support spaces get reorganized, and part of the interior becomes a new office. That's a big change of use for the space.
- Harris Trl NW: Single-family addition permit under review. The plan reworks the front facade, extends the front door and foyer, and removes the existing sunroom. Expect contractor traffic on the street once work starts.
- 155 W Paces Ferry Rd NW: Commercial underground plumbing permit filed, with approval pending. Underground work usually means trenching, so you may see digging and some noise nearby.
- 3475 Lenox Rd NE: Several commercial permits are moving here at once. HVAC duct modifications are issued, a fire alarm upgrade with new speaker strobes is pending, and a plumbing permit for a new break room sink is waiting on approval. It looks like an office suite refresh.
- 3344 Peachtree Rd NE: Electrical alteration permit issued for Suite 2300 on the 23rd floor. A tenant is updating its space high above Peachtree.
