Council OKs 36-acre rezoning and parking-lot protections, but kills a historic district bid

The full council approved a major rezoning of more than 36 acres along Logan Circle and Chattahoochee Avenue, clearing the way for a large mixed-use residential and commercial project on land that's currently industrial. Council members also passed unanimously new consumer protections for private “park-for-hire” parking lots, cracking down on predatory ticketing and booting practices you may have run into around the city. In a close 11-4 vote, the council killed a proposal to create the Peachtree Circle Historic District, denying the added protections four members had pushed for. Council also approved $17.8 million in financing to buy new police vehicles and equipment, and signed off on $2 million more for stream restoration work at Chastain Park Golf Course. Separately, the Committee on Council recommended a new “Civility Pledge” for councilmembers meant to encourage more respectful public deliberation, along with appointments to the Civil Service Board and the Downtown Atlanta CID, while holding off on a proposal that would let residents speak at meetings in strict sign-up order.

- 3715 Northside Pkwy NW — Interior buildout underway to subdivide a full floor into a multi-tenant space. The business occupancy stays the same, but expect more tenants moving into this building soon.
- 130 Terrace Dr NE — Demolition permit filed for a 1972 duplex. This one's still waiting on additional materials before it moves forward, so don't expect noise right away.
- 2660 Peachtree Rd NW — Full electrical work permitted for an apartment renovation at this commercial property. Another sign of ongoing multifamily upgrades along Peachtree.
- 3550 Lenox Rd NE — Minor interior demolition and renovation permitted for a 11,564 square foot suite, splitting it into seven separate spaces. Looks like new tenants are on the way to this retail or office building.
- 987 Moores Mill Rd NW — New 6-foot wood privacy fence going up at this multifamily property. Routine, but you'll see fencing crews on site.
- 2391 Peachtree Rd NE — Exhaust fan and ductwork installation issued for this commercial space, likely tied to a restaurant or food service buildout.
- 2795 Peachtree Rd — Heat pump replacement permitted for one unit. Standard equipment swap, nothing disruptive expected.
- 3500 Lenox Rd NE and 3340 Peachtree Rd NE — Both properties pulled permits for data cabling and security alarm work. Low-impact, but it points to active commercial buildouts in these buildings.
- 24 Normandy Ct NE — Tub and shower replacement issued for a multifamily unit. Routine interior work.

- I-75 Lighting Upgrade, Muskett Ridge Drive to I-85 — Crews are swapping out old HPS lighting for energy-efficient LED fixtures along this Fulton County corridor, with pole, conduit, and related equipment replacement included in the scope.
- SR 400 Tunnel Bridge Rehab at the Justin C Martin Building — This project covers tunnel rehab work including spall repair on transfer beams and roof slabs, plus repairs and upgrades to the fire system.
- SR 9 Resurfacing, from SR 3 to north of Paces Ferry Rd — GDOT's District Maintenance Office selected this stretch of SR 9 for resurfacing after it posted a low pavement condition score.
Service Requests
- Potholes — 13 reports clustered on Paces Ferry Rd at Nancy Creek Rd and the Roanoke Ave/Shenandoah Ave intersection, plus single reports on Lakemoore Dr, Piedmont Rd, W Paces Ferry Rd, and six other spots. Most are in progress, a couple got kicked to the sewer division, and two are already closed.
- Traffic Signal Repairs — Crews are handling 5 non-emergency signal issues on Peachtree Rd, the E Paces Ferry/Bolling Way intersection, and Pharr Rd at Granview, plus 3 emergency-level repairs on Piedmont Rd, Lenox Rd at Piedmont, and Deering Rd. Most remain in progress with a couple already closed out.
- Downed Trees — Reported twice on Merrick Dr and once on W Wesley Rd. Two are already closed, one's still in progress.
- Right of Way Overgrowth/Visibility Issues — Two reports on Piedmont Rd, both marked solved.
- Right of Way Litter Removal — One report on Pharr Rd, still in progress.
