Fulton County Board of Commissioners made a big push on affordable housing this week, approving funding for 55 new units, split between 12 single-family homes and 43 multifamily apartments, in the Vine City and English Avenue neighborhoods. Commissioners also signed off on a $4.42 million contract to modernize nine elevators at the Fulton County Jail, a project that will take about 560 days to complete. On the infrastructure side, the board approved more than $1.7 million combined for water main relocation agreements with Roswell and Milton, work tied to roadway upgrades and a new multi-use trail connection. The board also approved the 2026 Budget Soundings, an early step in shaping next year's county budget, and authorized a $1.2 million grant-funded rental assistance agreement with the Urban League of Greater Atlanta to help local tenants stay housed. Together, these votes show the county leaning into both housing affordability and long-term infrastructure planning. All items passed with strong support, and none of the votes were close.

Atlanta NPU meetings this week (NPU-A, NPU-B, and NPU-C) focused heavily on zoning variances and alcohol licensing, though only agendas are posted so far, meaning outcomes aren't final yet. NPU-B took up a request to change ownership and add live entertainment licensing for a longtime Buckhead bar, along with a driveway expansion request that would nearly double the standard width limit and a lot coverage variance that would push one property from 40% to 52% coverage. NPU-C reviewed a proposal for a 17-foot retaining wall, nearly triple the usual 6-foot cap, plus several setback reduction requests and a new Thai restaurant seeking an alcohol license. NPU-A's agenda centered on a certificate of occupancy appeal headed to a formal hearing in October. All three NPUs are also voting on their 2027 operating bylaws ahead of the city's September 30 deadline, a routine but necessary step that keeps each unit's governance structure in place for the coming year. Keep in mind these zoning and licensing items still need to clear the Board of Zoning Adjustment or License Review Board before anything becomes final.

- 3565 Piedmont Rd NE — Fire sprinkler relocation and addition just got the green light. Standard life-safety upgrade, nothing that should disrupt the area.
- 3348 Peachtree Rd NE — Crews are adding 44 sprinkler heads to cover a renovated space. That's a sizable buildout happening behind the scenes.
- 3333 Piedmont Rd NE — Electrical renovation permitted for the entire 24th floor. If you work in this tower, expect some disruption on that level.
- 3833 Roswell Rd NE — New grease hood, grease duct, and exhaust fan going in. That's a telltale sign a restaurant kitchen is getting built out or upgraded.
- 3035 Peachtree Rd NE — Vince, the retail brand, is doing a tenant improvement in Buckhead Village District. The store's getting a refresh.
