Fulton County Board of Commissioners

In a separate special meeting, the board voted 4-0 to send a Transportation Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax, or TSPLOST, to voters this fall, along with an agreement spelling out how the money would be split among cities if it passes. That's a big deal for anyone who drives on county roads, since the tax would fund local transportation and infrastructure projects across Fulton. Commissioners also approved fee adjustments for environmental health services and locked in election agreements with Atlanta and Sandy Springs ahead of the November general election.

Atlanta City Council
The full council's agenda this week centered on the city's push to host the 2028 Democratic National Convention, with members set to consider host agreements involving MARTA and the Atlanta-Fulton County Recreation Authority. Also on the table: a plan to close part of Jesse Hill Jr. Drive near Grady Hospital to build a new pedestrian plaza, and a consumer protection ordinance that would force private parking garages and lots to post clear rates and offer accessible payment options. Council is also weighing a $5.6 million expansion of the city's solar contract with Cherry Street Capital and a 20-year deal to build a youth community center near Center Hill Park. Because that meeting only has an agenda posted, none of these items are final yet and could still be tabled or amended. Meanwhile, the Committee on Council did meet and take action, confirming Stephanie Jackson as the city's new Auditor for a five-year term and approving nearly $37,000 in contingency funding for council communications. Two big events at Chastain Park, a golf tournament in September and an arts festival next spring, are also up for scheduling review because of their impact on nearby traffic and parking.

NPU-B
NPU-B's agenda mirrors the citywide conversation on solid waste fees and self-storage restrictions, with the same Special Use Permit requirement for self-storage projects up for a vote. A related measure would require medical cannabis dispensaries to secure the same kind of permit, ensuring they stay the required distance from schools and residential areas. Locally, neighbors are set to vote on a new outdoor "European Market" event planned for Buckhead this fall. Two big Chastain Park events, though technically in NPU-A, are also on the agenda for comment since they sit close enough to affect NPU-B traffic and parking. Keep in mind this is just an agenda, so any of these items could be tabled or pulled before a final vote happens.

NPU-C residents are looking at the same two citywide proposals showing up across Atlanta this month, adjustments to solid waste fees and a new Special Use Permit requirement for self-storage facilities that would end by-right construction of these buildings in commercial and industrial zones. Backed by a large group of councilmembers, the storage rule would force developers to go through a public hearing before building, giving neighbors real input for the first time. A routine administrative update for the Howell Mill Road Publix's alcohol license is also on the agenda. Since only an agenda has been posted, none of these items are finalized and could still be tabled, deferred, or withdrawn before the meeting concludes.

- 3565 Piedmont Rd NE — An existing office suite is expanding into vacant space next door and renovating parts of its current footprint. Growth mode for whoever's in that suite.
- 3280 Peachtree Rd NE — Terminus 100 is renovating its 2nd floor restrooms and corridor, over 2,100 square feet of work. If you work in that building, expect some hallway detours.

Beyond these, the city logged over 75 more commercial permits across Buckhead this week, mostly fire sprinkler, HVAC, and low-voltage work. That's typical maintenance and upgrade activity, not new construction.

On the residential side, 107 permits came through, dominated by arborist removals for dead or hazardous trees (21), HVAC work (20), and electrical upgrades (18). If you've noticed tree crews in your area lately, that tracks. No major demolition or new home construction showed up in this batch.

Road Work

- I-75 Lighting Upgrade (Musket Ridge Drive to I-85) — Crews are swapping out old HPS lighting for energy-efficient LED fixtures along this stretch, with pole, conduit, and related equipment replacement as part of the scope.
- SR 400 Tunnel Bridge Rehab (Justin C. Martin Building) — This project covers structural repairs to the tunnel, including spall repair on transfer beams and roof slabs, fire system repairs, and other upgrades.
- SR 9 Resurfacing (SR 3 to north of Paces Ferry Rd, plus SR 9 South segment) — GDOT is repaving this section of SR 9 to fix a low pavement quality score. You'll likely hit paving crews and possible lane closures if you use SR 9 through this area, so give yourself extra time.

Service Requests

Potholes top the list this week, with 14 reports scattered across Buckhead, including Shenandoah Avenue, N Ivy Road, Biscayne Drive, and the Woodhaven/Tuxedo intersection. Most are already in progress.

Traffic signals need attention in several spots. Crews logged 10 emergency-level signal repairs at Piedmont/Garson (two separate reports), Arden/Northside, Lenox/Burke, and Paces Ferry/Piedmont, among others. Several got handed off to Georgia Power. On top of that, 8 non-emergency signal repairs came in for Peachtree Hills/Peachtree Road, Castlewood/Northside, Roswell/Chastain, Piedmont/E Paces Ferry, and Paran Place/Mount Paran, with most already closed out.

Storm cleanup remains active too. You'll find 9 downed tree reports along Roswell Road (two separate incidents), N Stratford Road, W Wesley Road, Peachtree Memorial Drive, and Herrington Drive, with more than half resolved or in progress.

Overgrowth is blocking sightlines in multiple spots. The city logged 7 visibility and overgrowth complaints on Roxboro Road, W Paces Ferry Road, the Rhodenhaven/Northside Parkway intersection, Pharr Road, and Piedmont/Morosgo, and most have already been marked solved.

Rounding out the list, litter removal requests came in for Runnemede Road and Pharr Road, and sign repair or replacement is underway on Wieuca Road and at the Pine Valley Road intersection.
