Krog District owners buy the last Beltline parcel, plus a Horizon world premiere

Krog District owners scoop up final missing piece along Beltline
26th Street Partners closed on a nearly 5,400-square-foot former warehouse, office, and residential building at 116 Krog St. that fronts both the Eastside Trail and Krog Street. The seller, THC Chill, had bought it in September 2024 for $2.95 million and relisted it in July at $5.25 million; the final sale price was not disclosed, and no specific plans for the building have been announced.

Horizon Theatre's 'Other Paths to God' explores faith, work and scandal
The world premiere by Atlanta playwright Kelundra Smith, directed by Alexis Kulani Woodard, continues through Nov. 8 at Horizon Theatre in Little Five Points. It follows five intensive care unit nurses at Morey Medical Center as suspicion falls on them after $3 million goes missing, and tickets start at $40.

Fulton OKs North Point Mall TAD and a senior ride bridge deal, while APS weighs AI rules

Note: our information comes from posted meetings documents (agendas and minutes when available) — latest source document hyperlinked to each meeting.

Past Week Roundup

Fulton County Board of Commissioners
Fulton County commissioners voted 6-0 to include county taxes in Alpharetta's North Point Mall tax allocation district, but only after cutting real estate purchases from the list of costs the money can cover. Two resolutions from Commissioner Dana Barrett failed, one that would have lifted the 5% cap on department budget requests for 2027 and one urging action against corporate takeovers of medical practices. The board held a proposed $9.59 million Transdev contract for senior and behavioral health transportation. Instead, it approved a $1.06 million, three-month bridge extension with Common Courtesy so seniors 60 and older keep their rides through March 31, 2027. Commissioners also approved $3 million in standby water system construction contracts, split between two firms, which keeps emergency repairs moving countywide.

Atlanta Public Schools
The school board's Oct. 21 meeting record shows only the standard agenda outline, with no votes or spending decisions on file. The Policy Review Committee also met that day and focused on two discussion items. One was a proposed policy on how students and teachers can use artificial intelligence in classrooms, and the other was a draft of the board's 2027 legislative priorities. Committee members took no votes on either one. Both items still have to go to the full board before anything changes in your child's school, so you'll have more chances to weigh in.

DeKalb County Board of Commissioners
DeKalb's Committee of the Whole set the agenda for the next full board meeting on Oct. 20. Members pulled a proposed $153,800 contract to move election equipment and advanced land condemnations for the Constitution Road Freight Corridor project to public hearings. They also sent two multiyear contracts of about $55 million each, one for general construction and one for watershed work, to standing committees for review. Several smaller funding items moved to the consent agenda, including $225,000 in pandemic-relief interest funds for eviction and utility help, $100,000 for mental health services, and money for animal welfare programs. A special called meeting was also held that morning, but no agenda or minutes are posted for it.

Atlanta City Council
The full council's Oct. 19 agenda had no minutes posted as of this writing, so outcomes aren't yet confirmed. The council took up a proposal to sell the Atlanta City Detention Center to Fulton County for up to $68 million, with the city leasing back space for its detainees for $1 a year over 50 years. It also had legislation on the table that would require data centers to switch to closed-loop cooling and stop using city drinking water, along with a proposed data center task force. Other items included a $2 million federal grant for downtown streetscape design, a ban on septic tanks for new commercial projects, and protections for residents hit by sudden water bill spikes. Before that, the Committee on Council had on its agenda a request for certified police officers at recreation centers used as polling sites, two competing changes to public comment rules, and a charter amendment requiring every piece of legislation to list a councilmember sponsor. That committee also had a proposed outside legal investigation into city contracts and payments involving Foris Webb III.

Permits
