The vision includes proposed routes, MARTA transfer points, and station locations that would directly serve Southwest Atlanta neighborhoods.

Council members urge Dickens administration to revisit Beltline rail
District 2 Councilmember Kelsea Bond has introduced a City Council resolution urging Mayor Andre Dickens to reconsider light rail on the Atlanta Beltline. Co-sponsored by nine colleagues, the measure requests that the city, MARTA, and Atlanta Beltline Inc. present an actionable construction timeline and plan by January 2027.

Atlanta Beltline Launches Resident Resource Guide to Connect Residents with Financial and Homebuying Resources
The Atlanta Beltline Partnership has relaunched its free online Resident Resources Guide, providing a streamlined directory of local programs that support homeownership, financial stability, and legacy resident retention. The updated tool covers programs across Beltline neighborhoods aimed at helping residents navigate affordability challenges and access housing assistance.

Atlanta Beltline breaks ground on new Northwest Trail segment
The Atlanta Beltline broke ground on Segment 3B of the Northwest Trail, completing a 1.2-mile stretch from Trabert Avenue to Tanyard Creek Park. The project features a new pedestrian bridge over Northside Drive, bringing dedicated multi-use trail connectivity directly to Ardmore and nearby southwest Buckhead communities.

City of Atlanta accepts Fulton County's offer to purchase Atlanta City Detention Center
Mayor Andre Dickens has formally informed the Fulton County Board of Commissioners that the City of Atlanta will accept the county's offer to purchase the Atlanta City Detention Center for $68 million. Dickens stated the agreement is expected to deliver over $600 million in net present value to Fulton County taxpayers by leveraging existing detention capacity and avoiding substantially greater future capital costs.

Atlanta City Council
Council members had a packed agenda this week, approving major rezonings covering nearly 37 acres along Logan Circle and Chattahoochee Avenue, swapping old industrial land for new apartments and street-level retail. They also passed strong new consumer protections for private parking lots, cracking down on surprise fees and aggressive booting and towing practices. In a close 11-4 vote, the council killed a proposal that would have created the Peachtree Circle Historic District, leaving those properties without the added protections some members wanted. You'll also want to know the council approved $17.8 million to buy new police vehicles and technology, and sent $4.5 million toward road resurfacing in Buckhead. Separately, the Committee on Council recommended a new “Civility Pledge” for councilmembers and approved two board appointments, while holding off on a proposed rule change that would let residents speak at meetings in the exact order they signed up. As covered in today's news section, the council also introduced legislation authorizing the sale of the Atlanta City Detention Center to Fulton County for up to $68 million.

NPU-T
Your neighbors at NPU-T reviewed a proposal to turn a neighborhood church into multi-family housing and add new residential buildings next door, a plan that would require both a rezoning and a change to the city's development plan to move the area away from single-family use. Minutes aren't published yet for this meeting, so we know what was on the agenda but not how the vote came out. The board also reviewed a new alcohol license application for a restaurant and bar just across the NPU boundary, giving nearby residents a chance to weigh in even though the address falls in a different NPU. Finally, members took up the 2027 NPU bylaws, which face a September 30 submission deadline and, unlike regular votes, come with no attendance requirements for residents who want to have a say.

- 1240 Oakland Dr SW — Nine separate electrical permits issued for service updates and safety fixes at this address. That's a lot of activity in one spot, likely tied to a larger property upgrade or a landlord bringing units up to code.
- 850 Oak St SW — One West End Blocks 1 & 2 just got accepted for the first phase of a major mixed-use development. This phase brings retail and multifamily housing to the site. Keep an eye on this one, it's set to reshape that stretch of West End with new shops and housing options once construction gets moving.

Road Work

Under Construction
- SR 14 @ Beltline Westside Trail — Crews are refurbishing the full length of the SR 14 bridge over the Beltline, extending under MARTA, the CSX railroad and Murphy Avenue, with new concrete work throughout.
- SR 14 from Norman Berry Drive to CSX #718047H — GDOT's District Maintenance Office is resurfacing this stretch of SR 14 to fix its low pavement condition score.
- I-20 at 2 locations in Fulton County, bridge preventative maintenance — This bridge rehab covers header spall repair, joint replacement, steel beam painting, superstructure spall repair, bearing replacement and substructure work.
- I-20 from Linkwood Road to I-85, lighting upgrade — Crews are swapping out old HPS lighting for energy-efficient LED fixtures along this corridor, with poles, conduit and related equipment getting replaced as part of the work.

Service Requests
- Downed Trees — 17 reports came in, mostly on Selwin Ave SW (7) and Stokes Ave SW (5 combined), plus Arlington Ave & Selwin, Allene Ave SW, and a handful of other spots. Crews closed out 10 of these and 7 are still in progress.
- Overgrowth and Visibility Issues — 10 reports flagged blocked sightlines and overgrown right of way on Dargan Pl SW (2), Gaston St SW, S Gordon and S Gordon St SW, Peeples St SW, and four other streets. Nine got resolved and one's still open.
- Litter Removal — 5 reports target Peeples St & Oak St, Lucile Ave SW, Ira St SW, Beatie Ave SW, and Murphy Ave SW & Ralph David Abernathy Blvd SW. All five are still in progress.
- Traffic Signal Repairs — 4 reports total. Non-emergency issues hit Murphy Ave SW & Ralph David Abernathy Blvd SW and Donnelly Ave, with one closed and one still pending. Emergency-level repairs came in for Metropolitan Pkwy & Dill Ave and Sylvan Rd & Lee St, one of which got kicked to Georgia Power and the other's closed.
- Potholes — One report on Catherine St SW got referred to the Sewer Division for follow-up.
