Atlanta Beltline breaks ground on new Northwest Trail segment
The Atlanta Beltline broke ground on Segment 3B of the Northwest Trail, completing a 1.2-mile stretch from Trabert Avenue to Tanyard Creek Park. The project features a new pedestrian bridge over Northside Drive, bringing dedicated multi-use trail connectivity directly to Ardmore and nearby southwest Buckhead communities.
First-ever West Midtown restaurant week kicks off Sept. 20
West Midtown is launching its inaugural Restaurant Week starting September 20, showcasing the district's prominent culinary community. The weeklong celebration will feature special menus and dining deals across participating neighborhood eateries.
New management team set to lead at Atlantic Station

Could light rail be the Beltline's next chapter? Atlanta's transit vision comes into focus
Atlanta Beltline planners and community members recently gathered at the Lee + White Food Hall along the Westside Trail to review the final Beltline Transit Study, which outlines a proposed 22-mile light rail system. The vision includes proposed routes, MARTA transfer points, and station locations that would directly serve Southwest Atlanta neighborhoods, with planners sharing details on expected frequency and ridership.
City of Atlanta accepts Fulton County's offer to purchase Atlanta City Detention Center
Mayor Andre Dickens has formally informed the Fulton County Board of Commissioners that the City of Atlanta will accept the county's offer to purchase the Atlanta City Detention Center for $68 million. The Mayor stated the agreement is expected to deliver over $600 million in net present value to Fulton County taxpayers by leveraging existing detention capacity and avoiding substantially greater future capital costs.

Logan Circle rezoning sails through, but Peachtree Circle historic status dies in split vote

The full council approved a major rezoning of more than 36 acres along Logan Circle and Chattahoochee Avenue, swapping old industrial land for mixed-use apartments and retail, a sign of how fast the Upper Westside is transforming. Council members also passed new consumer protections for private "park-for-hire" parking lots, cracking down on predatory ticketing and booting practices you may have run into downtown. In a split 11-4 vote, the council killed the proposed Peachtree Circle Historic District, denying it the protections some members wanted. Big money items also cleared: a $17.8 million lease deal to buy new police vehicles, $4.5 million for Buckhead street resurfacing, and $2 million more for stream restoration at Chastain Park. As covered in today's news section, the council also introduced legislation to sell the Atlanta City Detention Center to Fulton County for up to $68 million. Separately, the Committee on Council advanced a new "Civility Pledge" requiring council members to keep deliberations professional and respectful, while holding off on a proposal that would let residents speak at meetings in strict sign-up order.

- 1235 Chattahoochee Ave NW — Interior buildout turning a white box space into a training kitchen, plus plumbing work adding two sinks. Sounds like a culinary or food service business is moving in.
- 1021 Huff Rd NW — New HVAC and ductwork installed at a commercial space. Routine, but it points to active buildout in the Huff Road corridor, which has been steadily filling with new retail and creative business tenants.

- SR 3/US 41 from Tech Pkwy to Hemphill Ave (Fulton County) — Crews are reworking the intersection cluster where Northside Drive, 14th Street, and Hemphill Avenue meet, simplifying the layout to give traffic signals more flexibility.
- I-75 from Musket Ridge Drive to I-85 Lighting Upgrade (Fulton County) — GDOT is swapping out old HPS lighting for energy-efficient LED fixtures along this stretch. The work may also include new poles, conduit, and wiring.
- SR 9 Resurfacing from SR 3 to North of Paces Ferry Rd (Fulton County) — This is a resurfacing job aimed at fixing SR 9's poor pavement condition score. It covers the SR 9 corridor and the SR 9 spur south of it.
- Buford Spring Connector at I-85 Tunnel Lighting (Fulton County) — Workers are replacing the tunnel's old HPS lighting with LED fixtures, with additional work on conduit and wiring where needed.
